Bored in Class

Hello all,

I’m sitting in a “technology integration” class bored out of my mind, and I am reminded of why I am glad that my students don’t have computers in front of them while I lecture.

So my kids did nothing but complain today. It seems that they really don’t get the concept of authority. I’m trying to put this as delicately as I can (since some of them may run across this site), but they don’t understand how the world works. You give them the clearest expectations that you can, and instead of taking advantage of that by figuring out how they meet those expectations, they simply complain about those expectations. I don’t know if I ever thought that I could change a boss’s expectations by complaining, but if I did, I was delusional. I wouldn’t complain so much if any of them actually came up with solutions, but they’re content right now just to complain.

It wouldn’t irk me so much if I hadn’t adjusted my lesson plans at the semester to make it easier for them to do the work in class and pass the tests. I have done everything except give them the notes. My english class just finished working on a five-paragraph essay (yes, seventh grade work in a sophomore class) and my standards are still too high. The sad thing is that I promised myself I wouldn’t lower my standards when I first started. I guess I just don’t care anymore. I sure hope I get my letter from law school soon.

Cheers,
Spence
