My Wife Is the Coolest!!

So my wife’s birthday is coming up on the 25th. I schedule a sitter for Saturday, and tell her we can do anything she wants for her birthday. I’m expecting dinner and some kind of romantic comedy, like License to Wed or something. That wouldn’t be too bad, I suppose. I mean, it’s got Jim from The Office and Robin Williams, so it can’t be all bad.

Imagine my surprise, however, when she says, “Sweet, we’re gonna see Transformers!! I suppose that’s one of the benefits of marrying an 80′s tomboy who grew up to be a beautiful brunette.

As for the movie, it was f***in’ awesome in the original sense of the word. I was literally filled with awe, and not just because Megan Fox lived up to her last name (and she really did). I would have never guessed when my son Connor used to watch “Even Stevens” on the Disney Channel that Shia LeBeouf would actually turn into an actor one day (he definitely came of age in this movie).

But most of all, the crew on this movie needs to win an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects. The scenes seamlessly combined the CGI with live action, and moves along at a pace to make you feel like your stomach is trying to escape through your throat. They also judiciously separated the action sequences with good dialogue and a decent plot. All in all, the actors had great chemistry and and the movie left a good aftertaste, even if it wasn’t 100% true to the old cartoon.

After the movie, my wife said it was one of the best she’s seen in a long while. I would have to agree, and would definitely see it again. I will probably end up buying a copy eventually, and I haven’t bought a movie (other than kids movies) in years. In other words, go see it–you won’t be disappointed.
